The Advent season is much deeper than a cute baby born in a manger. The word “advent” means arrival, and arriving in that baby boy is the greatest love humanity has ever experienced. He is Jesus, the Incarnate God; the source of joy that lives beyond circumstance; the peace of God that transcends all understanding; and the eternal hope that rescues our souls. The season of Advent is discovering the arrival of everything our hearts have been searching for.

Advent at Evergreen looks like celebration. Whether it’s learning more about the arrival of Jesus as a family with the Advent Journal, savoring the joy of the season with a Movie Night, or praising the Living God at gatherings, join us this December as we celebrate the arrival of Jesus and what it means for us!

THE ADVENT JOURNAL

We hope you will join us in celebrating the arrival of Jesus all month long with the Advent Journal! This journal is designed to guide you and your family through the four themes of Advent - Love, Joy, Peace, and Hope. Each week you will explore Bible verses, reflections, and meaningful activities to prepare your hearts for the arrival of Jesus. Here’s how to get the most from your journal:

  • Choose a time to pause each day and read the Scripture, reflect, and pray. If you miss a day, that’s ok! Do as much as you can, and go through the journal with family members or friends when possible.

  • Use the reflection questions to deepen your understanding, and have discussions with others around what you are learning together.

  • Choose a few activities to do each section that bring the week’s theme to life and apply what you have learned. From acts of kindness to quiet moments of prayer, these activities can help you and your family actively express the love, joy, peace, and hope of Advent.

  • Light the Advent Candles. Use the candles provided, or some of your own, to light a candle at the beginning of each week as a reminder of the light Jesus’ arrival brings into the world.

  • Connect in community with other believers each week. The Advent Journal aligns with our weekly sermons through December. Bring it with you to church and use the extra space provided to take sermon notes.

This journal is meant to be flexible, so use it as it best suits you and your family. May it be a source of inspiration, connection, and anticipation as you prepare to celebrate the arrival of our Savior! Pick up your journal and Advent Candles, Sundays in the lobby starting November 24, or download the digital version below.
