THE NEWS THAT STAYS NEW

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  – Hebrews 4:12

There are very few things in this world that are timeless. We live in an age where trends come and go and where videos about Foxes go viral on YouTube as “the funniest thing you’ll ever see”… until, of course, a better video comes to the surface. Timelessness is often times relative to those who claim something to be timeless. This is true with the music we listen to, the movies we watch, and even the people that we meet and/or admire.

My favorite song of all time, “Supafly” by Thousand Foot Krutch, has proven to be a timeless tune in my life thus far. I believe that the humor found in the story of Lloyd and Harry in “Dumb and Dumber” should transcend every cultural barrier for all of time! And I’ve met people in my life who I would nominate to be in the Hall of Awesome… but odds, are you disagree with one or all of my previous statements. You may have never heard of Supafly (I pity the fool) and you may think that Dumb and Dumber is well… dumb. And who knows, maybe I’ll even get bored with these things sometime! But there is one thing that we have been gifted that truly is timeless and that is the Bible.

It amazes me that no matter how many times one reads the Bible, there is always something new to learn from it. God uses scripture to speak to us in amazing ways during every stage of our life. If I need encouragement, I turn to the word of God. If I need a kick in the rear to “do better” for the Gospel, I turn to the word of God. If life is grand and everything seems to be going my way, I turn to the word of God!

I’ve recognized lately that the Bible truly never gets old. The top 100 hits may fluctuate and change like the winds, but scripture does not. Scripture is ALWAYS true. Scripture is ALWAYS inspiring. And scripture ALWAYS speaks to us as the reader… we just have to walk in obedience by reading it and listening to the Spirit speak through it.

Now, odds are, I won’t be listening to the same music in 10 years that I’m listening to right now. I may not even be hanging out with the same circle of friends that I am now. But one thing I will be doing is reading the word of God with conviction and a fresh perspective, because scripture is timeless! If you’re a believer, it’s the old news that never gets old. If you’re not, it’s the new news that always stays new! Now, go and walk in obedience. Read. Listen. And be Transformed!
