You Are Incredibly Gifted to Serve God

David Reyes

I want to unpack this thought, you are incredibly gifted to serve God. For those of us who are on-mission, the name of the game is Oikos. For us, serving God is all about loving those 8-15 people sitting on the front row of our lives. Those are our peeps, our Oikos! We don’t pick our Oikos, they are supernaturally placed there by God. That can be intimidating and even frustrating, especially when some of them are a challenge to love and serve.

In God’s world, growth happens when we’re stretched beyond what we can “naturally” do and when we allow God to “supernaturally” make us capable of doing what we cannot do on our own. Look at this passage of scripture.

1 Corinthians 12

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

The apostle Paul encourages the church in Corinth to “eagerly desire” these gifts. This is how we should worship God, by serving others as we are supernaturally enabled to do so. Later in this letter to the church in Corinth, Paul urges them and us to pursue the greatest gift of them all - LOVE!

My hope is that you would pursue God and earnestly desire these gifts to serve your Oikos. But most of all, that you would desire the greatest gift, Godly Love.
