It's a Mystery
Ed McClanahan
I recently watched a documentary on the state of the investigation into the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. More than eight years ago, this Boeing 777 from Malaysian Airlines had left Kuala Lumpur Malaysia International Airport for Beijing China, but had vanished into thin air. The plane’s electronic tracking system had somehow been turned off, so air traffic controllers could no longer see the plane on their radar systems. A number of conspiracy theories have emerged, but experts have acknowledged that none of them can conclusively be proven or ruled out until the plane is located. Since only a few pieces of it have washed ashore, it remains a mystery.
The Bible speaks of another mystery which is much more confounding than a missing jet airplane. The Bible tells us that the mystery of God is Jesus Christ: “My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:2–3).
There is no understanding of God apart from a personal relationship with His Son Jesus Christ (Matthew 12:50; John 14:23; 2 John 1:6). Christ is the “mystery” revealed to those who believe—as is the mystery of “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). The key to having the “full riches of complete understanding” (Colossians 2:2) is to be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit. The “mystery” of God is his plan of salvation through Jesus.
Mysterious? Absolutely! But what an amazing privilege we’ve been given. Be sure to thank God that he’s revealed this mystery to you. If you haven’t yet experienced this mystery, ask the Lord to make it clear to you. It’ll be the best mystery you’ve ever experienced! Guaranteed!
