A Look to the Mountains
John Osborne
Recently my wife and I joined several others in our neighborhood on a short camping trip. There were multiple reasons why it created such a great memory. Some of the highlights included the games and activities along with the fellowship surrounded by food and the campfire. Of course, the gorgeous scenery certainly helped all of it come together.
As I reflect on the picturesque mountains and the pillow like clouds in the sky, I am reminded of the awesomeness of our God. Our God is the giver of life and the sustainer of it all. He orchestrated the universe’s beginning and keeps it all in harmony for each of us to enjoy. Yes, creation is beautiful but the Creator is even more impressive!
Living in the Pacific Northwest with the mountains in the backdrop, one might think this is as close as it can get to Heaven. Yet, it does not take long to be reminded of the fact that we are not in Heaven when one watches the news, the bills come in the mail, or a family member is diagnosed with something we can’t pronounce. Certainly we are reminded of this as we age - when our minds think one thing and our bodies react a whole lot slower than they used to.
Life is full of challenges. Whether it is something we are facing at the moment or we know of someone in our Oikos that is challenged, we must remind ourselves of the incredible power and love of God. He who made the mountains and continues to hold the world together, can help us in our time of need. I love reminding myself of Psalm 121:1-2.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
I don’t know what is on the forefront of your mind right now or who you might be interceding for, but remember that God is able! He is the Creator, the Sustainer, as well as our Helper. May we look to Him!
