Give Me a Peace of that!

Isaiah 6:9

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Peace. It truly doesn’t matter where you find yourself in life or what you believe, we all desire peace. Don’t worry, this is completely natural! This longing to feel peace is hardwired into each and every one of us because it is how God designed us. Although this is ingrained into us, we often seek to attain peace in unhealthy ways, such as in relationships, finances, comforts, substances, or some higher plane of spirituality. You can search for peace in all these places but you will constantly find yourself coming up short. So why is that? We will never have true and lasting peace in life until we meet the source of it.

Isaiah 6 tells us that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Peace is more than an emotion or a feeling, it’s a person. The Hebrew translation here for Prince of Peace is “sar shalom” which translates to a leader who provides complete soundness, peace, and safety. Jesus reigns like no other king or ruler the world has ever seen. With one name we see the essence of God’s peace clothed in the person of Jesus.

Peace is more than a feeling to be chased, it’s a relationship to experience. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the only way we can have peace with God. No matter where you are on your journey with Christ, set aside some time today to reflect on Jesus as your Prince of Peace.
