DEVOTIONAL
Jesus said that He would not leave us as orphans, but that the Father would give us the Holy Spirit, who would be with us forever. He said that the Spirit would live with us and be in us. (John 14) If you have received Christ, you have received the Holy Spirit. If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you do not have Christ. (Romans 8) This is profoundly and fundamentally important, for not only are you never, ever alone, but your body is now and always filled with the Presence and Power of God Himself.
What a game changer! The same Spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead and gave life to His mortal body, lives in you. He gives you comfort, guidance, strength, and peace. He gives you power to live your life fully submitted to God, and to walk in victory over all the forces of evil in the world. He is the down payment for what you will more fully enjoy in Heaven.
The Spirit’s Presence brings fruit into your life; love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, patience, faithfulness, and self-control. We enjoy this fruit in real time as we lean into His Presence and allow Him to live through us.
Mary was told she would be made pregnant with the Son of God because “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35) In much the same way, God now fills us with the Holy Spirit and the power of the Most High dwells in us. This makes us pregnant with the supernatural, so that the life we live in this fallen world will be called a work of God! As Mary bore the very literal fruit of the newborn Messiah, you will bear the fruit of the Spirit in your own life. You can be sure, it is a blessing very much like the one bestowed upon Mary.
