Day 3: He Is The One God Existing In Three Persons

Day Three

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

»  Why do you think God chose to reveal Himself to us in three Persons?

»  How is knowing God as Father helpful to you? How is it dif cult for you?

»  Take a moment and give a sentence of praise to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

»  Practice this week’s memory verse.

The word “Trinity” is never found in Scripture, yet it is one of the most helpful theological principles to understand. That God has chosen to reveal Himself to us as One God in three Persons is clear, and it is great news for us that He has. Seeing the triune God helps us to better understand the nature of who He is, the depth of His commitment to us, and the transformational future He makes available to us.

God is One and there is no other. The Father is God; the Son is God; the Holy Spirit is God. Even more clearly, the Father is not the Son; the Son is not the Spirit; and the Spirit is not the Father. They are equal and have coexisted for eternity. Like a prism held to the light, we see new colors of the majesty and beauty of God as we examine Him in each of these ways.

God is the Father of all creation, who possesses sovereign power. God is the Son who self-sacrificially participates in our world. And God is the Spirit whose ever-abiding Presence works with us to the end.

Understanding His triune nature helps us to experience His radical love and to see His redemptive commitment to us more vividly. God the Father made us, God the Son suffered violently for our rebellion, and God the Spirit enables us to taste now the glory that we will one day enjoy forever without limit.

As the triune God, He is your Father, who freely gives you all good things. He is your elder brother who makes a way for the Father to welcome you home from the disaster of your foolish rebellion. And He is your counselor, who nurtures you toward the wholeness and life the Father had in mind when He made you. Each Person of the Trinity uniquely helps us to know God and His great work in us.

“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! To him be the glory forever! Amen.”
- Romans 11:33
